As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you click a “Check price on Amazon” button and buy something, Amazon may pay Ounce & Outlook a small commission. The price you pay is the same whether or not you use our link. Our Amazon tracking tag is mako-ounceoutlook-20; if you see it in an Amazon address after clicking from this site, that's us.

How our links work

Buy buttons on this site point to addresses that start with /go/. That's a simple redirect on our own domain: it adds our Amazon Associates tag and sends you to Amazon. We use it so a product's destination can be updated in one place (for example, when a model is replaced) without rewriting every page. Clicks on buy buttons are counted in aggregate through our analytics. The redirect adds no fee and only forwards to the retailer named on the button.

Every earning link is marked rel="sponsored" for search engines, and every page with picks carries a short #ad note above its first buy link that points back here.

Other programs

At launch, Amazon is the only retailer we earn from. No other affiliate network is active on this site. If we join another retailer's or brand's program later, it will be listed here and the buttons will say which store you're going to. When we mention gear that isn't sold on Amazon (several cottage brands sell only from their own websites), the link is a plain reference link and we don't earn on it.

What we don't earn on

Links to makers' product pages, spec sheets and published standards are plain source links, there so you can check our numbers. We earn nothing on them, and we cite them whether or not the product is one we link to on Amazon.

Prices: the maker's list price and Amazon's price

Two different prices can appear on this site, and we keep them apart. The list price (MSRP) is the maker's own published price, read on the maker's website on the date shown, with the source linked. We use it to compute grams saved per dollar and build totals, because it doesn't swing day to day. It is not the price you'll pay on Amazon.

Amazon's price is set by Amazon and changes often. No live Amazon price feed is connected yet, so rather than show a number that might be wrong, every buy button says “Check price on Amazon.” If a live feed is connected later, prices will show inside the buttons with an “as of” time and disappear on their own after 48 hours.

Editorial independence

• No brand pays for placement, and we don't accept free products in exchange for coverage.
• Commissions never set a score or pick a winner. Scores come from the published formula on How we rank.
• Every pick names a reason to skip it, and we say plainly when a product sold only by its maker is the better buy even though we earn nothing on it.
